Weekend Knockoff #3

I am so excited to be writing this post from VACATION!! We are spending some time at my in-laws home in the mountains. The weather is fantastic!! We will be here all through next week, a much needed break from work. I’ll post here and there when I can, but I am definitely going to take advantage of my time away. We are going to be doing some antique shopping, so I’ll also have to post my great finds!

First up this week is this wooden basket from Joss & Main:

This basket retails for $55.99 and is on sale for $40.95. Unfortunately, it is currently sold out, but I think I could make my own DIY version using furring strips. I love that this basket comes in Navy and White. A sturdier basket would be great for the entry way, for holding quilts in the family room, or even on the front porch.

I also fell in love with this End table from Cost Plus World Market:

I love the bright color and am always in need of another end table outside on the patio. I think this would be relatively easy to make, inexpensive, and fun to do in a bright orange or bright blue!

Cost Plus World Market $31.99

I love this fabric wall art from West Elm:

I think you could make this from canvas, a painter’s drop cloth, or jute webbing. How cool would it be to use your own painters cloth and leave the color splashes from all your previous projects. Another option would be spray painting it a solid color like you see here. This could be a great indoor or outdoor piece of art.

I have been keeping my eyes open for ideas to hang pool towels outside. I love this rustic Multicolored Hook Rack from Pottery Barn Kids:

This retails for $89. I love the different colors and this would be an easy project to customize!

Another idea is to recreate these cute Flip Flop Hangers from Pier 1:

I would trace one of my own flip flops, cut out the shape with a jig saw and drill holes for fabric strips. I would finish it off with a decorative flower hook to hang beach towels on. These would even be cute with the kids names painted on them.

Pier 1 $69.95 on sale for $49.99

The last set of inspiring hooks I found this week are these Numbered Hooks from Target:

I love the rustic look of these hooks, but you could do them in bright colors or even patterns such as chevron to make them more summery. Another idea would be white with bright teal nautical shapes such as anchors, star fish or coral painted on them as an accent.

Target $69.95

Last but not least I wanted to share this creative craft idea for pine cones from Twig and Toadstool:

My mother in law asked me if there were any cute things we could do with the GIANT pine cones we have up here at their vacation home. I think creating these flowers and grouping them on a wreath would be so cute. You could also add these to a burlap ribbon tied around a candle holder. Very fun!

Cost Plus World Market Chalkboard paint knockoff

So the other day, while sorting through my scrap pile looking for wood to build an outdoor rustic shelf, I found a piece of scrap wood that I had used to test a “gray wash” stain. I sampled so many finishes before finally committing to Rustoleum’s Early American for my farmhouse table.

Immediately, I knew this was the piece for a chalkboard beach sign. If you missed my earlier post, check it out here: {{posted on Weekend Knockoff #1}}

I just love this Cost Plus World Market “Beach” Sign made with chalkboard paint.

Cost Plus Chalkboard Direction Sign $12.99
Cost Plus Chalkboard Direction Sign $12.99

This sign is truly inexpensive, but again NOT FREE!!

I made my version with supplies I already had. I promise I didn’t go to the store for anything!! I even dug through every outdoor toy box to find a piece of chalk to write with :-)

I cut this piece of scrap wood at a 45 degree angles to make an arrow shape, taped off the edges with 1 inch painters tape and painted the center with Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint.

I touched up the stain minimally and attached the Jute rope to the back with a staple gun.

Here are a few more shots:

It’s amazing how many places you can hide toys while still attempting to be stylish!!

A great rustic beach sign that is versatile. You can use it for any message you want, use it for notes on your front door…the possibilities are endless. if you have any chalkboard paint projects, please share them here with links in the comments below.

Hope everyone is having a great week…gearing up for the Holiday?? Any fun plans? One more day of work and I am off for 11 days!! Whoo Hoo!!
