The Weekend Knockoff #1

Inspiration is all around us. How many of you are guilty of getting lost in the world of Pinterest for hours like me??

I recently posted some of my favorite things I think I could probably pull off all on my own {for a much lower pricetag}. I have the DIY bug, which could possibly be mistaken as the bug of falsely believing I can make anything I see in a picture!

So I have decided to share what inspires me each week in a segment I’m calling ~ The Weekend Knockoff. Come back each week to see what I have up my sleeve. If any of these ideas inspire you to create your own DIY project, PLEASE…PLEASE share them with me here!! I would love to see what you are working on and I would love to know this blog inspired you to create something beautiful!!

So here is this weeks lineup: Click on the pictures for links to these products.

Cost Plus $9.99-14.99
Cost Plus $9.99-14.99

I am going to the beach in the morning and will definitely be coming home with a driftwood collection!! These candle holders are inexpensive, but I bet I could make them for about $2!!

Restoration Hardware $85-145
Restoration Hardware $85-145

How easy would it be to whitewash some scrap wood for serving trays or cheese boards?? I could make these for FREE!!

Cost Plus Serving Tray (not for sale)

I posted this photo for the serving tray which is not for sale…so I guess I will have to make this one myself!

Restoration Hardware $278
Wayfair $278

Even if I bought expensive decorative door hinges I could make this mirror for way less than $278. Off to the hardware store salvage yard to find hardware I can repurpose with my hammered metal spray paint!

Pottery Barn Painted Glasses $28.50 for 6

Thrift stores and flea markets are full of inexpensive glassware. I’ll be shopping for cheap items I can custom paint. If you missed my glass painted vase and mason jar, click here.

Pottery Barn Painted Stemware $28.50 for 6
Pottery Barn Painted Stemware $28.50 for 6

Here is another idea, only paint the stems! How fun are these?

Cost Plus Buoy $24.99
Cost Plus Buoy $24.99

I imagine making this buoy for my front door using a blue pool noodle from the Dollar Store, white paint and Jute. Awesome greeting for a pool party!

Cost Plus Chalkboard Direction Sign $12.99
Cost Plus Chalkboard Direction Sign $12.99

This is another project from the scrap pile that is essentially FREE! I need a sign to put on my front door during parties, letting guests know they can come in to the back yard, since it’s hard to hear knocks or doorbells when we are outside. This could be useful in so many ways, messages to the mailman, asking guests to use a different door. The possibilities are endless!

So many projects, so little time. I love brainstorming inspiring ideas like this. It makes it easy when you have a somewhat organized approach to yard sale, flea market shopping. Do you ever see cool items, but pass them up because you have no idea what you could do with them?? Now, when you are shopping and you see a set of 6 juice glasses for a dollar, you already have a plan!!

Batman Inspired Boys Room

This is the amazing little guy who inspired this post today!

Batman

He’s just like his daddy in the sense that he is always “in character.” He is absolutely in love with Batman! And I am absolutely in love with him :-)

I want to make his room special, and do something he loves!  Knowing how fast and how often his “favorite things” may change, I also want something versatile and something that we can update by changing out accessories rather than starting from scratch.

I was inspired by the Pottery Barn Kids Quilt Collections (seriously, did they market specifically to me by naming collections after both my kids??) Unfortunately, the price tag on these quilts is higher than I want to spend. So I set out to make quilts of my own. The PB Quilt in the mood board below is what inspired me, and here is a sneak peak at my version. I have the top pieced together, now it just needs to be quilted and finished with binding!!

Quilt

It is made from super soft flannel and the dark navy pieces are Chenille

Here is a collection of some ideas I have for the finished room:

Moodboard Boys Bedroom Batman

1. Espresso Storage Cube~I have a storage cube similar to this one I found at Costco, so this is already a staple in the room

2. Amy Gourd Glass Navy Lamp~I think I can find a lamp similar to this that I can refurbish/paint. I plan to applique a batman symbol onto charcoal colored fabric and recover the lampshade. 7th House on the left has a great tutorial for re-covering lampshades on their blog.

3. Rio Navy Blue Faux Silk Ready Made Ring Top Curtains ~This is another project I think I could DIY!!

4. Pottery Barn Kids Quilt ~I absolutely love the collections from Pottery Barn Kids. They have a great website and you can browse by product or by room. Plenty of inspiration for both boys and girls.

5. Keep Calm and Call Batman Sign ~Found on this Etsy shop~ I love this!

6. Batman Sheets ~The best part about these sheets is they add a fun element to the room that is easily changed out. I am making the same quilt for my younger son, and his room will be inspired by Disney’s Cars. Imagine all the possibilities with this color palette. Spiderman, Batman, Cars, Nautical theme, Thomas the train, Toy Story, the possibilities are endless!! They will also be able to grow into more neutral rooms over time.

7. Batman Clock ~A nightlight that projects the bat symbol onto the ceiling is the icing on the cake!!

Hope you enjoyed, would love to hear your thoughts and I cannot wait to reveal the finished room!!
